Allostasis process of maintaining stability when change happens
Things change every day now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Even people with high tolerance to change and normally thriving in instability might be getting overwhelmed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know I am in those moments when I allow it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In psychology allostasis is a process of achieving and maintaining stability by adapting to stress. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Managing stress will have a cost on your body and mind. Change or maintain your behaviors so they help you to minimize the allostatic load - the price your body pays for adapting to the psychological and physical adverse situations.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recognize that your stress is higher than normally and become aware of it, and return to or develop the routines and habits that serve you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These work for me:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
truly healthy diet (yes, I skip the cookies and co and we cook at home a lot)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
easy stretching exercises⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
walking⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
meditation⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
conversations with my friends and family⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
reading (mostly in the bath tub)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
learning (online courses)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
baths with loads of sea salt or nicely smelling oils⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
deep breathing exercises⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
skipping negative news⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
laughing⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
painting (limited because of no access to materials at the moment - hopefully will be resumed soon) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you do or need to start doing to help your body and mind to maintain stability?
